Thanksgiving Turkey with a Side of… Allergy?
Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time of year. A time to be thankful and remember all the amazing blessings of life. A time for family, friends and allergies...
Allergies?? What?!
Unfortunately, for the millions of allergy sufferers out there, Thanksgiving can be a rough time of year. During this time of year, allergy sufferers are having to constantly be cautious of the horrible things that stir up those awful allergy/sinus symptoms. From environmental allergies, to food allergies, this article can help our millions of sufferers map their way around those awful triggers!
Environmental triggers are everywhere and there is never a good escape plan for our sufferers. However, if you are the host, there are ways that YOU can help keep our allergy triggers at a minimum. Ease the misery of our family members that are allergic to certain animals. Try to wash the dog before bringing the fur-family around our sufferers. (Not only will this help decrease the amount of pet dander, it will also wash off all the extra pollen that has set into the pet’s fur. Our sufferers may also be allergic to that pollen.)
Help prevent dust mite allergies. As the host, vacuum that carpet and maybe even shampoo it! Clean off those dusty shelves in the guest bedroom, and don’t forget to fluff out those pillows and blankets: this will prevent our sufferers from cuddling up with the enemy at night!
For those that are hosting a Thanksgiving feast, remember to be aware of those family members that may be allergic to nuts, dairy, wheat, fruit and even soy (especially when basting that turkey). There are options of buying a natural turkey, because per the FDA, it must contain absolutely nothing but the turkey itself.
Desserts are another main course to our feast. Remember that hundreds of thousands in the US alone suffer from different nut allergies, and some even suffer from pumpkin allergies. So please remember to set aside different dessert alternatives for our sufferers!
Take these tips and tricks and have a happy, enjoyable and allergy-free Thanksgiving!
